CBP is officially expanding the Section 232 steel and aluminum tariff. There are two publications that list out the expanded list of HTS classifications that will now be subject to the Section 232 steel and aluminum tariff. Importers are urged to carefully look through the HTS classifications on these two lists. This is a very large expansion with many new HTS classifications subject to the section 232 steel and/or aluminum tariff.

Rate: The rate for the section 232 steel & aluminum tariff remains at 50%. The exception is for products from the UK. Products from the UK will be subject to a 25% tariff.
As a reminder, the tariff is only assessed on the portion of the product that is steel and/or aluminum. Importers must work closely with their vendors to confirm the values. If importers are not able to verify the value of the portion that steel and/or aluminum, the value of the entire product will be subject to the 50% tariff.
Importers are also required to report the following:
- Steel portion of the product: country of melt and the country of pour
- Aluminum portion of the product: country of smelt and the country of cast
