Back in April, the Trump Administration put a 90 day “pause” on the Reciprocal tariffs for products originating from all countries besides China. During this 90 day pause, the Reciprocal tariff for non-China originating products was set at 10%. This 90 day pause is scheduled to end at 12:01am EST on July 9, 2025. We still do not have any details about what exactly will transpire on July 9, 2025. Our assumption is that barring any update from CBP, all entries on July 9, 2025 will be subject to the Reciprocal tariff based on the tariff listed in Annex I.
The possible exceptions to this are products from:
- Vietnam, which supposedly came to an agreement with the United States yesterday based on Trump’s social media post. The social media post mentions a 20% tariff for products from Vietnam and a 40% tariff on products transshipped through Vietnam. We do not have any formal confirmation about the details of the agreement. No details have been published either on the Whitehouse.gov website or the Federal Register. We therefore cannot say with any certainty what reciprocal tariff products from Vietnam will be subject to on July 9, 2025.
- China, which is on a different 90 day time-line that is supposed to end on August 12, 2025. China also supposedly has reached an agreement with the Trump administration, but no details of this agreement have been published at this time.
We are assuming that the U.S. government and CBP will provide some guidance on either Monday, July 7th or Tuesday, July 8th as to how to handle the expiration of the 90 day “pause” on the Reciprocal tariffs. Stay tuned for updates.
